What does the calculator do?

Our calculator helps you estimate a release date.

It uses the rules about when people can leave prison.

You put in information about the sentence.

It tells you a possible release date.

How to use it

Choose sentence type

Pick the type of sentence from the list.

Most people have a "Standard Determinate Sentence" or SDS.

Enter the start date

Put in the date the sentence started.

This is usually the date of sentencing in court.

Enter the sentence length

Put in how long the sentence is.

For example: 4 years, or 2 years and 6 months.

Add any credits

Time already served counts towards the sentence.

This includes time on remand before sentencing.

Remember

This is an estimate only.

The real release date might be different.

The prison decides the actual date.
