A new year brings renewed energy and focus to our mission. As Inside Out Justice enters 2026, we want to share our vision for the year ahead and the lasting change we're working to create in the UK criminal justice system.
Our Founding Purpose
Inside Out Justice was established with a clear purpose: to advocate for a justice system that genuinely serves the interests of public safety, victims, and the potential for human redemption. We believe that punishment and rehabilitation are not opposing forces but complementary aspects of an effective response to crime.
2026 Strategic Priorities
This year, our work will focus on several key areas:
Policy Advocacy
We will continue to engage with policymakers, presenting evidence-based arguments for reform. Our particular focus will be on reducing the use of short prison sentences, which evidence shows are largely counterproductive, and expanding community-based alternatives.
Public Awareness
Changing policy requires changing minds. Through this blog, media engagement, and community events, we will work to shift public understanding of what effective justice looks like. We aim to move beyond simplistic narratives of punishment toward a more nuanced appreciation of what actually reduces crime.
Stakeholder Engagement
We will build coalitions with other organisations, bringing together diverse voices including those with lived experience of the criminal justice system, victims' groups, prison staff, and criminal justice professionals.
Research and Evidence
Good policy requires good evidence. We will continue to commission and disseminate research that illuminates what works in reducing reoffending and creating safer communities.
Join Our Movement
None of this work happens without support. Whether through volunteering, donations, or simply amplifying our message, every contribution helps build the movement for change.
Together, we can create a justice system worthy of the name – one that truly transforms lives from the inside out.
